Trident Hybrid Steel Cage System Patent

Poseidon Ocean Systems is excited to announce that we have been granted a patent with the Instituto Nacional de Propriedad Industrial (INAPI) in Chile for the invention of our novel farm cage structure “Trident Hybrid Steel Cage System.” At the same time, we have received notice from the European Patent Office that they will also be granting a patent for our Trident technology in Europe.

The Trident Hybrid Steel Cage System represents a breakthrough in steel cage and pontoon design. Trident blends the performance characteristics of the two styles of pontoon structures; circular systems made from flexible HDPE pipe, and square systems made from rigid steel frames. The result is a hybrid design that incorporates flexible HDPE pontoons with rigid steel frames to deliver superior stability and rough weather performance compared to existing systems. The result is a cage system that combines the best of both worlds and – importantly – provides an excellent platform for the incorporation and integration of emerging farming systems and technologies that are becoming more and more common in today’s modern farming operations. The hybrid structure supports year-round lice and algae barrier deployment, and uses 40% less material compared to circular options, further reducing capital and operational costs.

Trident’s unique design allows all feed, power, air, and oxygen lines to be routed and protected below the deck, creating a safe and clutter-free workspace. The chambered, foam-free floatation is designed to outlast the structure itself and is 100% recyclable.  All the decking on Trident is removable, which extends the life of the structure and allows for easy repair of routine wear and tear.

The Trident Hybrid Cage System integrates seamlessly with our fish Life Support System (Flowpressor, Oxypressor, and Depth Charge Plume) allowing the farmer the option to use full-time barrier deployment (deep skirts) against sea lice, jellyfish, and algae while maintaining high oxygen levels and cooler temperatures.
